The last couple of hours on install day are when the crew tests the system as a whole and hands it over to you.
What startup checks
- Refrigerant charge, weighed in for the length of the line set and checked against the manufacturer's target.
- Airflow, with the blower set for your ducts and static pressure measured at the equipment.
- The furnace, fired and checked on a dual-fuel system.
- The drains, tested with water.
- The thermostat, set up, including the outdoor temperature where the heat pump hands off to the furnace.
What you should have when the crew leaves
A walkthrough of the thermostat and the filter, the model numbers, the manuals, a copy of the permit and a number to call. The manufacturer warranty should already be registered.
The first winter
A heat pump runs longer than a furnace, and the air from the vents feels warm rather than hot. In cold weather it stops now and then to defrost, so two to ten minutes with the outdoor fan off and steam coming off the unit is normal. Keep snow off it.

Common questions
What changeover temperature should a dual-fuel system use?
We usually set it between 25 and 35°F and go over it with you. It's a thermostat setting, and you can change it.
What does the labor warranty cover?
One year on our installation work. If something we installed isn't right, the visit and the fix are on us. Longer labor plans cost extra.
Does the heat pump need maintenance?
Change the filter on schedule and keep snow and leaves away from the outdoor unit. Our installs usually include one or two maintenance visits in the first year.
