Two quotes for the same heat pump can describe two different jobs. Read the lines above the total before you compare prices.
The equipment
Look for the model number of the outdoor unit, the indoor coil or air handler, the furnace if there's a new one, and the thermostat. Together they make up one AHRI-rated match. If a line only gives a brand and a size, ask for the model.
The work around the equipment
- Setting. A stand or raised base, and where it goes.
- Line set. New or reused, and how a reused one gets tested.
- Electrical. The circuit, the breaker, the disconnect, and whether a panel upgrade costs extra.
- Drains. Coil and furnace drains, and a pump if there's no floor drain nearby.
- Permit, startup and hauling away the old equipment.
Rebates
Ask who files the rebates and whether they come off the quote or arrive later as a check. Xcel lowered its heat pump bonus for Xcel gas customers on October 1, 2026, so ask which amounts apply on your install date.

Why does the AHRI number matter?
It certifies that the indoor and outdoor units work together at the rated efficiency. Rebate programs check it, so it has to match what gets installed.
